The gentle manatee"Manatees," by Homer Seward, combines an easy-to-read text with full-color photographs. The result is a good children's book about these fascinating aquatic mammals. Seward discusses the manatees' habitat, their diet, and how mother manatees care for their babies. He also writes about attempts to protect these endangered animals. This is a great beginning book on manatees.Marjorie's Magical Tail teaches children about the hazards manatees face in a story format. The authors did a great job at educating children without frightening them. Marjorie's a delightful manatee. The watercolor illustrations are childlike and very inviting.

Of Manatees And Man
Published in Hardcover by Xlibris Corporation (18 March, 2000)
Average review score:

Faulkner does it again! It it obvious from reading Douglas Falkner's book on Manatees and how their lives are impacted by over a million boats in Florida's waters every year, and by Florida's 15 million residents and 60 million tourist every year, why these gentle creatures are on the endangered spieces list.
Faulkner's running text, though it is only 101 pages long gives one little opportunity to put the book down, nor does his lively writing style give one little incentive.
Power boats are not the only enemies of the Manatees. Man made pollution, habitat destruction, pesticides and herbicides as well are killing the Manatees and the beauty that once was Florida.
The title of the book, Of Manatees and Man, is well chosen for the life and death of the manatees cannot be seperated from the life and death of man and his habitates.

Sam the Sea Cow
Published in Paperback by Walker & Co (May, 1992)
Average review score:

Manatee Bologna!Manatees are very cute and they are always fun to enjoy in classic literature. "Sam the Sea Cow" is no exception. Francine Jacobs and Laura Kelly combine to create a powerful and moving adventure into the underwater world of the manatees. From the adorable beginning to heart-wrenching tragedy all the way to the poignant ending, "Sam the Sea Cow" is a treat for any manatee devotee. "Above and beyond five stars!" raved Chessie. "Beautiful and touching," gushed Temba and Colossate. But this book can best be described in the words of Sam the Sea Cow himself: "Very manatee."

Mystery At Manatee Creek
Published in Paperback by Sterling House Pub (01 March, 2000)
Average review score:

A Plesant Exciting SurpriseThis delightful book was recommended by a friend who I did not think was into books. Boy was I wrong. A couple of high school teenagers witness a murder while courting on a moon lit beach in Florida. They naturally report the incident to the authorities, to find their lives could be in danger. The tale moves at a fast pace thru their going to college and their 1930's courtship in the south Florida and Atlanta, Georgia areas. While following a mystery that is suspenseful and not solved until almost the last page at a college football game the reader is treated to an intimate visit with the way it was in the 30's. Entertaing and great for teenagers and seniors alike.
Appreciative Reader's CommentThis was a wonderfully written book and I recommend this book to readers of all ages. It is a compelling mix of mystery and romance. For older readers it will be a nice piece of nostalgia. It is historically accurate. The description of Piedmont Park and the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta give it an exceptional ring of truth. Again, I recommend this book to readers of all ages.
Mystery at Manatee CreekRobert Tylander's unique ability to create adventure, mystery and romance in one book held me in suspense until the last page. Highly recommend this book for people of all ages. It is refreshing high quality reading with no smut.
